Pensions in sport

We take pride in our approachability and ability to give our sports sector pensions clients clear, concise and jargon-free information.

Regular areas of advice include restructuring of pension scheme arrangements, exercise of trustee discretions, liability management exercises, conflicts of interest on trustee boards and exiting final salary arrangements.

We are involved in drafting a range of documents for clients including governing pension scheme deeds, confidentiality agreements, internal dispute resolution responses and due diligence reports on acquisitions.

We have joint employment and pension products for entities in the sports sector to ensure that our sports sector clients benefit from the full range of human resources experience that our firm has to offer.

Experience

  • NGBs – Successfully achieving full payment of pension benefits for employees of the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation, British Wheelchair Sports Foundation and Women’s Cricket Association from an especially complicated Non Associated Multi Employer Scheme (known as a ‘Names scheme’ in the trade) which was beset with difficulties.
  • Motorsport organisation – Advising on deeds documenting changes in trusteeship and changes to the governing documents.
  • A leisure trust – Advising and negotiating a lower exit payment for a leisure trust leaving a Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
  • A bookmaker – Advising on the recovery of an overpayment from a former member who had been receiving a pension income despite having previously transferred out of the scheme.
