Expertise
Dan joined Symbiosis IP in 2024 following the completion of his PhD in Chemistry at Cardiff University, during which he also spent 18 months as a visiting researcher at the University of Birmingham. He holds a first-class MSci degree in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham (2019), where his final-year research project explored the synthesis and functionalisation of peptides.
His PhD research focused on the design of photoactive molecules for incorporation into photoresponsive 3D frameworks. His work involved crystallographic, spectroscopic, and computational analyses to investigate photophysical and photochemical behaviour—insights with potential applications in areas such as drug delivery and water purification.
At Symbiosis IP, Dan works across a variety of technical sectors, including pharmaceuticals, cancer therapeutics, nanoparticles, optoelectronic devices, batteries, biosensors and pesticides. His broad scientific expertise and hands-on research experience underpin his work in drafting and prosecuting patent applications as well as advising on intellectual property strategy.
