Leeds office names child bed poverty charity Zarach as partner

Our Leeds office has chosen children’s bed poverty charity Zarach as its new fundraising partner for the next 12 months.

Launched in 2017 by local teacher Bex Wilson, the Leeds based charity has delivered over 9,000 beds, bedding and other basics since its launch, and currently works with over 500 primary and secondary schools to identify key signs and make referrals.

Bed poverty can range from having broken beds and damaged bedding and sharing beds and rooms to sleeping on the floor or not being able to wash and dry bedding due to the energy costs associated with laundry.

Roger McCourt, partner and head of Gateley in Leeds, said: “Each year our people choose the charity they wish to support in their local region, and I am really excited that Zarach has been chosen as our partner for the next 12 months.

“The importance that quality sleep can play in a child’s physical and mental well-being cannot be underestimated. It’s a basic right where many of us take our beds and a decent night’s sleep for granted, but for thousands of children and families facing financial hardship it’s a real challenge.

“The charity’s purpose and vision really resonated with our Leeds office, and we are looking forward to supporting the charity with both fundraising events and volunteering opportunities over the next 12 months to help them to lift even more local children out of bed poverty.”
